The hallmark of success of any country lies in the hands of its leaders. Hence, the sustainability of local talent is significant to ensure that Malaysia remains the best and brightest young design talents.
It is with the vision, that AkzoNobel partnered the Malaysian Society of Interior Designers to send 12 deserving students to this year's Asia-Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) General Assembly and Congress 2010 in Beijing, China.
Hosted by the Chinese Building Decoration Association (CBDA) and held from 9th - 12th October 2010, this presented the students with an opportunity of a lifetime to learn and network with some of the world's most renowned architects and designers such as Tadao Ando and Paul Andreu.
The 12 students were selected via student workshops held at seven local campuses, where they competed to design low-energy and sustainable interior design submissions based on eco themes. More than 700 students participated in the workshops, and each campus bustled with enthusiasm and excitement. Many designs even surpassed our judges' expectations, which bode well for the design industry in Malaysia!
Participating universities and colleges comprised of ALFA College, International Islamic University Malaysia, International University College of Technology Twintech, KBU International College, Kolej Komuniti Selayang, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysian Institute of Art, PJ College of Art & Design, Saito College, Taylor's University College, University College Sedaya International and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam.
