    Effective Use of Colours

How to heighten a low ceiling
Colours can be used to change the size of your home. You may use 3 different shades of color to make a low ceiling appear higher. Simply use the strongest shade of colour on the base of the room, then paint the medium shade of colour for the walls, and finish off with the lightest tint of the colour for the ceiling.

    How to highlight features
You like the special features you have created for your home to be the centre of attention, for instance, the ornate cornices, window frames and arches. To highlight these features, contrasting colours may be used on these features against your wall colour.

How to deal with an awkward room
With sloping ceilings, it is often difficult to decide where the wall ends and the ceiling starts. Solve this problem by treating the whole room with one colour.

How to make a room look more interesting
If the architecture of your room is too box-like or boring, one way to create a more interesting feel to the architecture is to create stripes at random width on one wall of the room.

How to add warmth to your room
To create a cosy atmosphere in your room, apply a colour that is warm in tone. This simply means the colour has more red and yellow than blue, which will instantly make the room look and feel warmer.

How add light and space to a small room
In contrast with adding a warm look to a room is to add a feeling of lightness and spaciousness to a room. Instead of 'warm' colours, use cool, light tones such as white or light yellow to bring light and space to a small, dark room.

How to create width in a narrow hall
A long narrow hall will appear shorter and wider if the end walls are decorated with a dark or warm shade of colour, and the side walls with a light or pastel colour.
